Children's sermon Road to Emmaus - meeting Jesus

"Their eyes were opened and they recognized him" vs 31       3rd of Easter

Basic idea: Use and expanded version of this picture (from the web) or some other picture of something that is hard to recognize. (If you look carefully you can see the face of Jesus looking towards you.) One account is that an individual had a prompting to take this picture of snow covered mountains out of a plane window.

As an alternative you could put a mask on a well known person in your congregation and see if the kids can recognize who it is. This can be a lead in to tell the account of Jesus appearing to his disciples on the road to Emmaus (Luke 24:13-35)

The main point is to explain how Jesus walked with the disciples but they didn't recognize him. However, at the breaking of the bread their eyes were opened and they knew it was Jesus. (Sadly, many people today just don't understand or recognize Jesus) I believe the main point to stress is that this was yet another proof that Jesus is alive!

Still working on this but I trust it's helpful.   - A.H.
